Reno is everything I expected and less. Cristy and I spent today in the Reno Casinos -- ours, the Silver Legacy, along with El Dorado and Circus Circus which continuously flow together. The whole thing is self-contained, no clocks, no windows. Lots of old people, lots of sketchy people, and a number of old sketchy people. And families! Families who wait in line twenty minutes for the buffet. It's loud, obnoxious, over-hyped, greedy -- the complete antithesis of Healdsburg.
Anyway, before playing anything today, we had brunch at the El Dorado buffet. I got: (a) beef tacos, (b) carnitas, (c) guacamole, (d) green beans, (e) hash browns, (f) pot stickers, (g) fried rice, (h) an apple crepe. How eclectic. Cristy stuck to the Chinese food -- but did throw on some BBQ chicken. Like the rest of Reno, nothing was great -- everything was ok.
We then hit the floor where we were dominated. We lost at slots, Cristy got killed at blackjack, I got killed at the sports book (which wasn't as large as I expected). The only place we had success was with video poker and video blackjack. It was a lot of fun -- we were up for a while, but kept playing until we both reached our limits. But overall, we got schooled.
It was a good time though. It was fun to see everything and be part of the 'scene'. I really think we would make money if we came back -- no, for real.
So Reno was Reno -- I'm glad we came, I'm glad we stayed for a day, and I'm glad we'll never come back. Tomorrow the train rolls on to the Beehive State and Salt Lake City. We'll only be spending one night there, but hope to see the tabernacle and if we can get there quickly enough, catch a Bees game (Salt Lake's AAA team). Brandon Wood, Kendry Morales, Jeff Mathis, and Ian Stewart -- looking forward to it!
